Building for the Future. Robert’s Story of Advancement.

Jan 03, 2020

Who has mentored and supported you throughout your career? At CEO, once a participant secures a job, a CEO Retention Specialist helps them to remain employed through ongoing career coaching. This vital component of our program supports participants like Robert Chavez to achieve career success.

At a young age, Robert lost the only positive role model in his life, his grandfather, and struggled to adjust. He was incarcerated in his late teens and spent much of the last decade cycling in at out of prison. When Robert returned home in April 2019, he was determined to carve out a different path for himself.

A month after his release, Robert learned about CEO. He came to the program determined to make a positive difference for himself and family.

After spending one-month on a CEO transitional work crew, Robert began working with his Job Coach and Business Account Manager to obtain a permanent job.

In July 2019, Robert secured part-time employment with Pony Express Car Wash and by September, he was transitioned into a full-time role. He recently assumed a supervisory position with the business, and achieved his four month job retention milestone. Robert’s recent success has inspired him to pursue other career goals. As an aspiring chef, Robert is now more motivated than ever to pursue his culinary passion. With a new job, his determination, and the support of his CEO Retention Specialist, Monica, Robert believes there is no challenge he cannot overcome.

“CEO gave me a foot in the door and the fire to want to move forward."

- Robert Chavez, CEO San Diego Participant
